About East Midlands

The East Midlands has a total population of 4.3 million which is growing significantly faster than the national average, expecting to rise to 4.8 million by 2028. The region is the most rural of the English regions, with 29.5 per cent of the population living in rural settlements. According to the English Indices of Deprivation 2010, the region is the fourth most deprived region in the country and residents have slightly poorer health than the national average. BIG awards approximately £20 million of vital funding across the region each year to help communities and people most in need.

Where we are based

The East Midlands team is based in Nottingham.

What we do

  • The team works with stakeholders, funding advice workers, potential applicants and current grantholders and offers advice and support. This is done in a variety of ways:
  • The team regularly attends funding fairs and delivers presentations and advice about applying to our programmes.
  • We monitor where and to whom grants are awarded in the East Midlands. We then work to increase the number of grant applications where necessary.
  • We attend forums, networks and groups to gather regional intelligence and work internally on programme development using this intelligence.
  • We send out monthly e-bulletins to over 1,600 subscribers.
  • We produce written case studies, videos and podcasts and media releases and use social media channels to help show the variety of good causes that BIG funding has supported in the region.
