The South East, which is the third largest region geographically, is home to 8.4 million people. This is expected to increase to over 10 million by 2033.
The region is widely seen as prosperous with low unemployment, a skilled workforce and strong economic activity. However, there are areas of significant deprivation which exist alongside more affluent neighbourhoods. Since 2007, 45 local authorities have become relatively more deprived.

The South East regional team is based in Guildford.
What we do
The South East team:
- works with regional stakeholders and groups to advise them of our latest funding opportunities
- monitors where grants are awarded and works with local partners to increase the number of grant applications
- supports funding advisers and potential applicants by offering programme advice through events and webinars
- helps existing grant holders to publicise the success of their projects
- makes sure potential applicants are kept up to date on our latest funding news via e-bulletins, Twitter and Facebook
- researches current regional trends to feed into BIG’s new and existing programmes.
