An exciting project that will revitalise the heart of a local village community today receives over £227,000 from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG).
Funded under BIG’s Reaching Communities programme, the enterprise will create a brand new community centre for the residents of Laxton, near Corby.
Laxton Village Hall project will provide new and improved facilities for local meetings, adult learning opportunities and a wide range of community activities and events such as talks and presentations, family parties, art, music and craft workshops, lunch clubs, toddler play groups and health activities including yoga and keep fit. The scheme is even exploring new ideas including volunteer-led community enterprises such as a shop or post office.
Promoting greater community integration, particularly for younger people and older residents at risk of isolation and loss of independence, the new enterprise will also invite residents from other local villages to share in the activities.
Tim Gilbert, Chairman of Laxton Hall Village Committee said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Laxton and we are all really pleased to receive the news from the BIG Lottery Fund that we can at last build a new village hall with great modern facilities. The benefit to our community will be immense and we look forward to being able to extend the range of events, classes and facilities to everyone for many years to come.”
Today’s grants come from BIG’s Reaching Communities programme, which offers grants of between £10,000 and £500,000.
Mick McGrath, Big Lottery Fund’s Head of the East Midlands region, said: “I am delighted that we are able to support the regeneration of this very worthwhile centre. It will provide so much more opportunity for local people to be right at the heart of their community, whether it’s learning new skills, enjoying activities or just socialising and making friends.”
Mick McGrath continued “This project is an excellent example of how BIG’s Reaching Communities programme can help build stronger communities and make a positive and real difference to the lives of people across the region.”
