More people with mobility problems in Gedling will be able to regain their independence as a Big Lottery Fund grant of £23,898 to Gedling Access Group is announced today to add to its fleet of Shopmobility scooters.
It will allow Gedling Access Group to purchase 12 additional scooters to complement its current Shopmobility fleet. The award is made as part of BIG’s Reaching Communities programme, which aims to improve the lives of those most in need and build stronger communities.
Jean Hudson, Gedling Access Group, said: "Gedling Access Group is thrilled and privileged to be receiving this money as we know how many applications they receive but we are in real need of new scooters and know how pleased our clients will be. It will give our clients the ability and freedom to get around in the town centre and get access to shops and facilities."
The grant will also be used to refurbish the organisation’s office and purchase some new office equipment to improve the service that Gedling Access Group offer.
Mick McGrath, Big Lottery Fund Head of Region for the East Midlands, said: “One of the Big Lottery Fund’s key aims is to tackle isolation. The additional scooters will provide freedom and independence for people with mobility problems, giving them the means to get out and about, which is excellent.”
