Big £750k grants roll out to small London projects

Eighty-two community projects across London will be springing into action as they take a share of over £750,000 in National Lottery good causes cash today. The money comes from the Big Lottery Fund’s popular small grants scheme, Awards for All see list of grants for projects in your area

Volunteering projects, training and workshops, and lessons in healthy living, are among the activities that will be run thanks to the funding.

Examples include:

Community Active Local Mentors in Waltham Forest which has received £10,000 to provide training and support for parents to become volunteer mentors for local children to help with emotional health and literacy.

Hampden Way Nursery School in Barnet which will use £10,000 to deliver healthy lifestyle sessions to promote healthy eating and cooking, physical exercise and emotional health and well being for parents of nursery children.

And Corelli College Co-Operative Academy Trust in Greenwich which receives £9,950 to train pupils from the college and local schools to become community Eco Champions to champion local green initiatives in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

Alison Rowe, Big Lottery Fund’s Head of the London region, said: “I am delighted the Big Lottery Fund is supporting these projects which are doing fantastic work in their local communities. It just goes to show what can be achieved with relatively small amounts of money.”

BIG’s Awards for All programme offers grants of between £300 and £10,000 to social and environmental projects that will benefit local communities and make a difference to the lives of those most in need. Voluntary and community groups, schools, health organisations and parish and town councils can all apply.
