Small grants make BIG difference for Yorkshire groups

Area:
Yorkshire and the Humber
Programme:
Awards for All England
Release date:
20 2 2012

Parent and child play sessions, arts activities for people who have suffered a stroke and employment skills workshops for disabled people and are among the projects making a difference to communities in Yorkshire and the Humber - with a little help from some National Lottery good cause funding.

Over 70 groups across the region are today sharing more than £626,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme (see list of grants for projects in your area).

South and West Bradford Stroke Group has been awarded £4,160 to run art and craft workshops for people who are recovering from a stroke. This will enable participants to improve their hand eye coordination, socialise and get involved in group activities. In Doncaster the Campsall 4A Trust receives over £9,500 to run activities to support local families including parent and child play sessions, literacy and numeracy classes and help with healthy eating and weight management.

Also receiving funding this month is Fun with Autism in Hambleton, which will be using their £9,965 award to set up a support group for families affected by Autism, Asperger’s and other Autism Spectrum Conditions. While in Hull, the Hull Council of Disabled People receives £9,100 to run IT and employment skills training for disabled people.

Vanessa White, Big Lottery Fund’s Head of the Yorkshire and Humber region, said: “It’s great to see such a wide and varied range of projects receiving funding this month. The important work these groups all do goes a long way towards building healthier, happier and stronger communities, which is what the Awards for All programme is all about.”

BIG’s Awards for All programme offers grants of between £300 and £10,000 to social and environmental projects that will benefit local communities and make a difference to the lives of those most in need. Voluntary and community groups, schools, health organisations and parish and town councils can all apply. Visit www.awardsforall.org.uk or phone 0845 410 20 30 for more information.
