Across Scotland, nearly 60 groups share in Lottery funding worth over £360k. A full list of funding in your area.
Awards for All is the National Lottery’s small grants scheme which gives out grants of between £500 and £10,000 that make a big difference across Scotland. Today the programme is awarding grants totalling £368,594 to 57 groups across the country.
People living in North Edinburgh will have the chance to take part in a community gardening project and learn to grow their own food thanks to an award of £9,890 to Granton Community Gardeners. The group will now be able to run a series of workshops for local people covering a range of subjects from caring for soil to composting. Four times during the year the local community will come together to enjoy a sit down meal where people can make new friends and enjoy the food that they have produced.
Selkirk Chamber of Trade and Commerce will help to put the heart back into the town’s high street thanks to an award of £2,890. The group will use the money to help local businesses and community groups set up “pop up” shops in empty retail premises. A project manager will also be brought on board to promote the project across the region with the aim of attracting more shoppers back to the town centre.
Thanks to a grant of £9,022, Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust will be able to re-open their “De’ils on Wheels” recycling shop. The workshop, which provided a valuable repair service for the local community, has been closed for a year and the group has been inundated with calls from local people looking to get their bikes fixed. The Trust will use the money to employ a qualified bike mechanic and will be able to offer volunteering opportunities for local people. The workshop will also provide bike mechanic training and will offer a local cost repair service
Young voices on Shetland will be heard thanks to an award to Shetland Islands Council, Children’s Services. The grant of £9,100 means they will be able to fully support the two volunteer Youth Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament in their role and pay for them to attend regular meetings in Edinburgh. The island is home to approximately 3,000 youngsters and the group will also use their grant to organise a youth conference on Shetland where young people can find out more about the Youth Parliament and how to make a difference in their community.
An Awards for All spokesperson, said: “These grants totalling £368k will benefit 57 groups across the country. Once again, Awards for All proves that the smallest amounts of funding can often make the biggest difference to people’s lives. Whether the money is spent to help bring back life to a high street Border town or to be used to re-open a much needed community service in Scotstoun, it’s great to see so many small groups coming forward with the aim of making a difference to their local communities.”
Awards for All is the small grants scheme supported by three of the National Lottery good cause distributors in Scotland: Creative Scotland, the Big Lottery Fund and sportscotland. The scheme makes awards of between £500 and £10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
