Release date:

Young people from North Ayrshire will find out how they could benefit from a share of £20 million of Lottery money when the Young People’s Fund comes to town on 12th of February.  The Big Lottery Fund team and Young Scot will be at the Laurieston Hotel in Ardrossan to give young people aged between 11 and 25 a helping hand in accessing the Lottery cash.

Launched in August 2005, the Young People Fund is run by the Big Lottery Fund, the largest of the National Lottery good cause distributors. The £20 million scheme has £358,000 to award to local projects in North Ayrshire over the next two years, which will help young people learn new things and take part in healthy and positive activities that make them feel good about themselves.

To promote this exciting new scheme, the Big Lottery Fund will hold an event between 4pm and 8pm at the Laurieston Hotel and want to hear from young people in North Ayrshire who might have an idea for a project or just want to find out more about the Young People’s Fund. The event is also aimed at organisations and individuals working with young people who want to talk through their ideas. This could, for example, include youth clubs, youth workers, community organisations, schools or local authority officers – and, of course, young people themselves.

Anyone who wishes to attend is asked to book in advance an appointment with a Big Lottery Fund advisor. Appointments can be booked by calling 0870 240 2391 or e-mailing enquiries.Scotland@biglotteryfund.org.uk

The Young People’s Fund application form has been designed to make it easy for groups of young people to apply and handy hints and tips are available throughout the pack.

Dharmendra Kanani, Big Lottery Fund Director Scotland, said: “The aim of the Young People’s Fund event is to give young people a chance to talk through their ideas or simply chat to one of our team about how it all works.”

He continued: “The Young People’s Fund is a great way for young people to have their opinions heard and to influence what kind of activities are funded in their area. We want to make sure that local young people in North Ayrshire and organisations working with young people have ample opportunity to may this lottery money work for their benefit. I am sure that young Scots from North Ayrshire have lots of wonderful and exciting ideas and we want to hear them!”
