Awards for All is the National Lottery’s small grants scheme which gives out grants of between £500 to £10,000 that make a big difference across Scotland. Today the programme is awarding grants totalling £1,166,282 to 174 organisations across the country.

Young deaf people in Glasgow will have the chance to put on an original piece of work which will challenge people’s perceptions as to how deaf people relate to popular culture after a grant made to The Arches.  The youngsters, in collaboration with Solar Bear Youth Theatre and Tigerstyle, will work with agencies to create a live digital score and help produce the visual images which will express how a deaf person can experience music.   The group will perform as part of The Arches LIVE Festival in September.  The £10,000 award will cover the costs of the rehearsal venue, marketing costs, costs of a project co-ordinator, a communicating support worker, sign language advisor, musician costs, production and stage manager costs, costumes and set build and design.

One of the top teams in the Scottish Floorball league will now be able to publicise the sport in the North East of the country and attract new members to the club. Floorball is a type of floor hockey which is played indoors which was invented in Sweden in the early 1970s.   A grant of £9,998 to Aberdeen Oilers Floorball Club means that they will be able to buy a portable floorball rink to practice and play on and get equipment that they desperately need.   Players currently practice in sports halls as there are no floorball rinks in or near Aberdeen.  They will now have enough strips for everyone in the team and will be able to buy floorball nets, goalie equipment and floorball balls.

Thanks to a grant of £8,200 to Three Lochs Book and Arts Festival a community arts festival will take place in Strontian in Argyll between 20 and 22 September.  Activities will include a range of live literature events with local and national authors, art and photography exhibitions. A programme of films will be shown and there will be a range of art and writing based workshops on offer for people to take part in. The award will cover the costs of authors, performers and artists fees, catering, publicity and will pay for film licences.

The Memory Box Network Limited, based in Dundee, will be able to run a series of workshops for local young people who have a relative diagnosed with dementia.  The workshops will primarily  use online resources such as video clips, audio recordings and photographs that can be tailored to individual needs of each of the young people taking part. The grant for £9,690 will cover staff costs, costs of ipads to run the sessions, a presentation screen, a MacBook and workshop packs.

An Awards for All spokesperson said: “There’s a fantastic range of projects being awarded funding this time around and it’s always surprising to see how diverse the applications can be. The programme exists to help groups do things they would otherwise be unable to do, and for relatively small amounts of money. This latest batch of grants showcases the range of applications we get, all of which are putting something back into their communities.”

Awards for All is the small grants scheme supported by three of the National Lottery good cause distributors in Scotland: Creative Scotland, the Big Lottery Fund and sportscotland. The scheme makes awards of between £500 and £10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
