Today Peace Mix will release the ‘Peace Mix’ single that brings to an end a three-month journey promoting peace through music up and down the UK. Taking its title from the Peace Mix campaign the single is the culmination in what has become a truly unique experience for the young people who wanted to push the message of peace to the masses. The track features a mixture of six vocalists and four musicians and is officially available to download on International Peace Day, 21st September.
‘Peace Mix’ was curated by SBTV and inspired by the New Day Foundation (NDF), an aspiring conflict resolution social enterprise founded by former gang members in Birmingham, and produced by SBTV’s resident producer BoyChick. The track travels through genres of grime, hip-hop, world music and drum n' bass. It effortlessly switches between tempos and key signatures and is made up of music from singers, rappers, producers and live musicians who came together on the same track. Their individual messages of peace have been brought together, intertwined and side-by-side on this special single.

Peace Mix was created when Big Lottery Fund and NDF joined forces to give young people across the UK a voice and the opportunity to be part of a campaign that promotes peace. The single is one element of a wider campaign which also saw the Peace Mix “Mic Relay” take over 11 cities in the UK with the semi-final
taking place at The Eden Project. The grand final took place on August 28th at the Roundhouse where Tinchy Stryder and Maximo Park took to the stage to celebrate the end of the tour.
Tinchy said, “It’s important for me to be involved in projects such as Peace Mix, we need as many positive voices out there”.
Maximo Park added, “For us to be involved in Peace Mix was positive as our music tries to be positive and is about overcoming the negative issues in everyday life”.
Catch a glimpse of what happened on the night:
BIG’s Director of Communications, Linda Quinn, said: “The Peace Mix anthem represents a lot of hard work from the young people we have met over the summer. For BIG the ability to identify music spaces for young people to use, which help them to showcase their extraordinary talents and heartfelt messages of peace has been hugely impactful.Young people have taken part in Peace Mix determined to change their lives for the better and we are hugely proud to have been part of that.”
Peace Mix has brought together a broad range of partners including urban youth charity XLP, social enterprise education through music education charity Blastbeat, youth engagement agency Livity plus community groups, the voluntary sector, youth organisations and regional charities. Together they hope to offer young people the encouragement and resources they need to improve their life-chances and realise their full potential.
