Safe and Well encourages communities to work together to tackle health and safety. We have about £18 million available for Safe and Well projects in Northern Ireland, and we will make grants to groups of people who share common interests, concerns or identities.
We want to fund projects that will achieve both of the following programme outcomes:
- community ownership of better and safer rural and urban rural environments
- improved physical and mental health for all people.
Projects must also meet one or both of our underlying principles: addressing disadvantage, and promoting tolerance and social inclusion; contributing to the reduction of poverty.
Projects must also meet all seven priorities of the Safe and Well programme:
- building community capacity
- increasing opportunity for volunteering and engagement within and between communities
- building community and voluntary and statutory partnerships
- improving community facilities, access and services
- increasing community involvement in protecting, restoring and sustaining the urban and rural environment
- helping individuals and communities to develop skills to make healthier lifestyle choices
- promoting mental health and emotional well-being at individual and community level.
