What’s it all about?

Investing in Communities: Supporting 21st Century Life wants to fund projects that build stronger families and stronger communities. It aims to improve the quality of family life by helping families most in need with early action to give children a better chance in life.

There are no deadlines and applications can be submitted at any time.

What are we looking for?

Supporting 21st Century Life can fund projects that achieve one or more of the following outcomes:
  • Children at risk of isolation are successful learners, confident individuals and maintain better relationships with their families and communities.
  • Lone parents, kinship carers, families at risk, step families and disadvantaged families are more resilient and have improved relationships.
  • Carers, older people and lone parent families cope better with financial crisis, have reduced financial stress and improved family relationships.
  • Families with caring responsibilities are more able to cope and better connected to their communities.
  • More older people live at home and have better social connections and relationships.

Who can apply?

  • Voluntary and community organisations
  • Local authorities or community councils
  • Social enterprises
  • Private companies (provided our grants do not contribute to the profits you distribute).

What can you apply for?

We expect to fund a wide range of activities and services under this investment area. For example, projects can focus on:
  • parenting
  • family support
  • respite and short breaks
  • financial skills and advocacy.
Projects can encourage mentoring, befriending, peer support, well being and support family members to take control of their life and participate fully in their community. They can also support activities, such as play, learning, volunteering, and outdoor experiences.
