Home Front Recall was part of the Big Lottery Fund's Veterans Reunited programme. It was a joint funding scheme from Lottery good cause distributors the Big Lottery Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The scheme provided small grants to fund activities across the UK to commemorate the part played by those on the home front during the war years - among them fire fighters, auxiliary services, Bevin Boys, dock workers, seamen, nurses - and people in many other roles including Britain's code-breakers. The scheme also provided funding for veterans who wished to organise or take part in reunions or commemorative events in the UK.
The scheme will funded street parties, services, reunions, parades, and other activities that allowed communities to come together and ensure that all generations commemorated and remembered the contribution that the people of Britain made in the Second World War.
