The programme funded projects related to social, medical and socio-medical research. The original £25 million budget was increased to £29.5million in view of demand.
The programme aim was to enable VCS organisations to produce and disseminate evidence-based knowledge, to influence local and national policy and practice and, in the longer term, develop better services and interventions for beneficiaries. In doing so the programme would develop VCS capacity to engage with, use and do research.
Grants for up to five years of between £10,000 and £500,000 were available to charities and voluntary sector organisations, with up to £1 million for exceptional projects.
In round one, we awarded 28 development grants with a total value of £222,297 and 24 Research grants with a total value of £7,742,550.
