Reaching Out has £6.2 million available to support projects in Wales that will achieve at least two of the aims of the Young People’s Fund.
Projects should focus on young people between 10 and 19 years old who are at risk of becoming, or already, disaffected and disengaged, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
They should involve young people in constructive activities through prevention, outreach and intervention work that will fill a gap in local services.
The programme will run for two years. Decisions on applications will be made four times a year.
There is a two-stage application process. First, applicants have to fill in a proposal form. We will use this information to advise applicants on the suitability of their project. If we are unlikely to fund the project, we will explain why. If we feel the proposal could be improved we may highlight our concerns and suggest sources of help.
At the proposal stage, we ask applicants to set out their project outcomes, describing how their projects will make a difference and improve young people’s lives. We also want to know how young people have been involved in planning the project and will be involved in running and evaluating it.
The full application involves more detailed information on the need for the project, its outcomes and how it will be run. If a project is large or complicated we will ask for a separate project plan.
The maximum grant will be £300,000 for up to three years. Grants can pay for staff, set up and running costs, activities, materials and small pieces of equipment.
We will make grants to voluntary, community, statutory, and private sector organisations. Applicants will have to show that the project should not be supported from another source and that it does not duplicate existing or planned local services. We will expect all applicants to discuss their project with the Children and Young People’s Framework Partnership and the Young People’s Partnership or the Children’s Partnership for the area it will cover.
