Discussion about prevention and early intervention have become increasingly prominent in policy debate over the last few years. In brief, how far should the government and funders focus on preventing social problems from arising in future rather than dealing with consequences later? And how far can we be sure that funding prevention will in fact be effective?
There are of course no easy answers to questions like these.
In 2012, we commissioned New Philanthropy Capital to review evidence and policy in this area.
Their review discusses the above and many other opportunities and challenges. It highlights areas in which adopting early intervention approaches might be most effective, as well as some broad principles that BIG and others might consider using in developing work in this area.
