About East of England

The East of England is one of the largest regions in the UK incorporating the counties of Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. With a population of roughly 5.6 million, the region is similar in size to Wales with 43 per cent of people living in rural areas. The East of England has one of the most rapidly growing economies with over 430,000 businesses worth over £109.9 billion a year. However, this often masks genuine need with pockets of severe deprivation hidden by more affluent areas.

Where we are based

The East of England regional team is based in Cambridge.

What we do

The East of England team works with regional stakeholders to maximise investment across the region. We organise programme launches, briefing events and attend external funding events to publicise our funding programmes and raise the profile of both BIG and the organisations we support in a number of ways. The work of the East of England team includes:

  • targeting areas with low levels of applications or funding
  • working with funding advisors to share information about common mistakes in applications and to deliver issue specific briefings
  • keeping local authorities and MPs updated about funding awarded in their areas and constituencies
  • networking with key regional stakeholders and other Lottery distributors as part of the Regional Lottery Forum, and other funders in the region through the funding forum Funding East
  • encouraging projects to network with similar groups after they have received their grant in order to foster partnerships which will contribute to the long-term success of projects.
