Peace Mix - Pass the mic

This summer, the Peace Mix Mic Relay tour will journey across the entire UK to uncover the best BIG and other publicly funded music studios available to young people – positive spaces where young people can create and record their own material.

At each studio, Peace Mix will find the finest new music talent by giving local acts the chance to record their own peace song and show off live to a VIP audience. One winner from each studio will get the chance to play in the final at the Eden Project in Cornwall on 16 August, the winner will then get the chance to play at The Roundhouse in London on 28 August.

In the North West the tour is has stopped off at Liverpool Lighthouse on 5 July and will be at the Manchester Z-Arts Centre on the 10 August.

Linda Quinn from BIG,

“This is a groundbreaking partnership where BIG acts as more than just a funder, and is able to bring people and organisations together to create a campaign that reaches out to young people. This is a great opportunity for not only musicians, lyricists, MCs, songwriters and poets to come forward to showcase their talent but for all young people to support their peers and to be part of our peace themed collaboration track, which will be launched later this year on the International Day of Peace.”

Awards in the region

People with learning disabilities in Liverpool, Sefton and the Wirral will benefit from grants worth more than half a million pounds, as part of a £2.5 million Big Lottery Fund (BIG) pot being announced across the region today.

People First Merseyside Company Ltd and Options For Supported Living are two of nine projects in the North West sharing the funding from BIG’s flagship Reaching Communities programme, which aims to help those most in need and build stronger communities.

People First Merseyside Company Ltd is receiving £274,188 for a new project which will target young people with learning disabilities and help them to have a more ‘mainstream’ life by offering training, developing self-awareness, confidence, skills and knowledge. The project will allow them to take part in everyday activities unassisted such as going out and meeting young people. It will work with people aged 16 to 25, initially in Liverpool but will expand to include Sefton.

Helen Flett, coordinator of People First Merseyside Company Ltd, said: “This funding from the Big Lottery Fund is absolutely vital. Funding is scarce at the moment and without the BIG grant this new project wouldn’t be happening.
